When considering Pre-Professional studies, it is important to understand King’s does not offer Professional Programs (other than the Bachelor of Education After Degree). We offer transfer opportunities into professional programs. This ranges from select course transfers (minimum) to a full undergraduate degree for admission (maximum) to another university. The advantage of taking Pre-Professional studies at King's is learning in a faith-based community with small class sizes, dealing with personable, helpful professors and creating a foundation for continuing study at another university.
NOTE: Even though the minimum entrance requirements may indicate only one year of undergraduate study, you will find that students with two years of study or a complete degree will have the most success in being admitted into the various pharmacy degree programs.
After beginning your degree at King's, you can transfer to your choice of the following universities:
Pharmacy at: University of Alberta
Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy (5-years)
- Only accepts 130 students per year
- Requires GPA of 3.5 or greater
- Application to the BSc Pharmacy degree has two components:
(1) pre-Pharmacy courses and (2) a Letter of Intent
Requires a minimum of:
- 6 credits in each General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry and English
- 3 credits in each Biology (cell biology), Biochemistry, Calculus and Statistics
Graduate studies in Pharmacy
Requires a minimum 3.0 GPA or 72% average in last 2 years of a degree.
King’s can offer the pre-professional study required for admission into the Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy program at the University of Alberta.
(Note: The Organic Chemistry cannot be taken at King's until the second year of study. However, it may be taken off campus at other institutions.)
For the graduate program, King’s can offer a Bachelor of Science degree for admission. Entrance requirements are very competitive, the UofA accepts 10 students out of an average of 500 applicants per year.
Pharmacy at: University of Toronto
Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy (5-years)
- Requires one year of undergraduate study including:
- 6 credits in each Biology, Physics and either Humanities or Social Sciences
- 3 credits in Chemistry, Calculus and English
- Minimum 70% average
- Completion of the University of Toronto Pharmacy Admissions Test (UTPAT)
240 students admitted a year (out of over 1000 applicants). 10% admitted from outside Ontario.
Graduate studies in Pharmacy
- Requires a 4-year degree in the natural/life sciences, physical sciences, social sciences or pharmacy.
- Minimum GPA 75% in last two years of full-time study
King’s can offer the first of pre-professional study for admission into the Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy program at the University of Toronto. For the graduate program, King’s can offer a Bachelor of Science in Biology or Chemistry, and numerous degrees in the social sciences for admission.
