Philosophy

The Philosophers

"The unexamined life is not worth living" - Socrates

This statement is especially true for the educated Christian who seeks to apply his or her faith to all areas of study and inquiry. A central task of philosophy is to criticize and examine the foundations of all disciplines, and a central task of Christian philosophy is to perform this task from a Christian point of view. For this reason, an introduction to philosophy is a necessary ingredient of a Christian liberal arts program. Philosophy also has a unique area of inquiry which involves subjects such as metaphysics, epistemology, logic, and the history of philosophy as a contribution to human culture. For this reason, philosophy takes its place in a Christian liberal arts curriculum along with the other disciplines as an area to be studied for its own sake.
