Education Club

Celebrating and Supporting One Another's Achievements

The Education Club is a unique community at The King’s University College which offers students and faculty many opportunities to engage in fellowship with and support of each other and discuss issues regarding elementary and secondary education.    The Club encourages all the first and second year education students to become one community and hosts various events and programs to facilitate this.  One of the many important programs of the Education Club is the mentorship program.  By pairing second year education students with first years, the Education Club aids in establishing a greater sense of community and fellowship.

Another goal of the mentorship program is to create a greater understanding of the Education Program and ease the transition for first year students.  The initial activity promoting the mentorship program is the Fall Barbecue, hosted by the Education Club.  This event not only allows the first year students to meet their mentors and develop bonds between both classes but also to chat with faculty and staff in an informal setting.  The Fall BBQ sets a warm and welcoming tone for the rest of the semester. The mentorship program has been very beneficial to past B.Ed. students.

As a Club we also like to celebrate and support one another’s achievements at the end of the semester.  Our main event for this is the annual Christmas party.  In addition to being another means of community development, this gathering allows Education students, faculty and staff to gather informally one last time before embarking on their 5 or 12 week practicum.

The Education Club allows students to participate in various programs and conferences aimed at developing skills to be used in their future classrooms and work place.  In previous years these programs have included First Aid Courses and professional development seminars.  In the past, members of the Education Club have been given the opportunity to take part in these programs at a partially subsidized cost.

Although the Education Club has a very specific focus and membership is limited to enrollment in the B.Ed. program we do support other King’s students and give back to the larger community.  The Club has participated in fund raising for various Honduras Mission Trips and Education students frequently participate in the Honduras Water Project.   To increase our involvement with the larger student body the Education Club President attends Students’ Association meetings in order to represent the Education students and be a supportive member of the student body.
